Abstract INTRODUCTION : A needle stick injury is a non-intentional wound or injury that results from the needles or other sharp objects which has been in contact with blood, tissue or other body fluids before the exposure and it can cause blood-borne diseases such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and even AIDS. These injuries can occur at any time when nursing student or nursing staff use and disposal of needles after administering the medication during blood sampling. The nursing students are more vulnerable to NSI because of clinical experiences.
OBJECTIVES :
1.To assess the pre-test and post-test knowledge score of GNM students regarding needle stick injury.
2.To administer a planned teaching program on needle stick injury to GNM students.
3.To compare the pre-test and post-test knowledge scores to determine the effectiveness of the planned teaching program.
4.To find the association between pre-test and post test knowledge scores with their selected demographic variables (e.g., age, year of study, previous clinical exposure, prior training).

METHODS :A pre-experimental study with one group pre-test and post-test design was conducted in Shambhunath Research Institute of Medical Sciences and Hospital Jhalwa Prayagraj. A total 60 GNM students were selected using convenience sampling. A structure knowledge questionnaire was used to assess the knowledge before and after the intervention. The planned teaching program focuses on causes, prevalence rate, risk factor, prevention, post prophylaxis of NSI.
RESULTS :The results of the study reveal that the subject knowledge of GNM students improved after the intervention. In the pre-test, most students had good (21) or poor (27) knowledge, with only 1 student rated as excellent and 9 as very good. After the intervention, the post-test showed an increase in students with excellent (8) and very good (20) knowledge, while those with poor knowledge decreased to 11, indicating a significant improvement in overall subject knowledge.
CONCLUSION :The findings of the study conclude that there was a clear improvement in the subject knowledge of GNM students after the intervention.
