| Abstract | The research study looked at how internship experience in regard to career decision-making impact Tourism/Hospitality Management Batch 2024 Students at Perpetual Help College of Manila. Theoretical Framework used was Kolb’s Experiential Learning Theory. Focused on the role that internship experiences offered in aiding students' professional development; skills acquisition; and future decision-making in their area (Tourism/Hospitality Industry). A quantitative research method using surveys (33 respondents who have completed internship) was used through self-administered questionnaires. Descriptive statistics (mean and modes) were calculated and utilized to measure relationship between internship experience and student career choices. Results of the study demonstrated that student respondents strongly agreed that their experience during their internships helped them gain applicable hands-on real world experience with successful communication/technical workplace skills (i.e. professional development), as well as, increased confidence and ability to adapt effectively when in a real world situation. Participants of the survey indicated that reflective practice and the application of knowledge obtained from education were critical components in helping students understand their career goals and interests more clearly. There were difficulties in performing internship duties such as working longer hours and limited guidance; however, participants agreed that their internship positively contributed to their personal and professional growth and development. The authors concluded from this study that internships are a vital component in ensuring that students within the fields of Tourism/Hospitality have been properly prepared for their future careers within those industries, by providing the tools necessary for workforce readiness; ultimately allowing students to develop informed career related decisions. |
