| Abstract | Abstract Digital payment systems have transformed the way consumers conduct financial transactions by offering convenient, fast, and secure alternatives to cash-based payments. The increasing use of smartphones, internet services, and government initiatives promoting a cashless economy has encouraged the widespread adoption of digital payment methods in India. The present study examines the adoption and usage behavior of consumers towards digital payment systems and assesses their impact on consumer spending behavior. The study is based on primary data collected through a structured questionnaire from consumers in Shimla District of Himachal Pradesh. The findings indicate that digital payment systems have become an integral part of consumers’ daily financial activities. Consumers use digital payment methods for a variety of purposes and generally hold positive perceptions regarding their convenience, time-saving nature, and reliability. The study further reveals that demographic factors influence digital payment usage patterns and preferences. The results also suggest that positive perceptions of digital payment systems are associated with changes in consumer spending behavior, including a greater tendency toward spending and impulse purchasing. The study concludes that digital payment systems have become an integral part of consumer financial behavior. UPI has emerged as the dominant payment method due to its ease, speed, and accessibility. Most users rely on digital payments not for a single purpose but for multiple daily transactions, indicating widespread acceptance. |
