| Abstract | Rapid prototyping technology has emerged as one of the most transformative innovations in modern digital dentistry. The integration of additive manufacturing techniques such as stereolithography (SLA), digital light processing (DLP), masked stereolithography (mSLA), fused deposition modeling (FDM), and selective laser sintering (SLS) has revolutionized the fabrication of dental prostheses, surgical guides, orthodontic appliances, implant frameworks, and maxillofacial prostheses. These technologies facilitate precise, rapid, and customized manufacturing with minimal material wastage compared to conventional subtractive methods. Recent advances in photopolymer chemistry, ceramic additive manufacturing, nanocomposite biomaterials, and high-speed printing systems have further enhanced the applicability of rapid prototyping in dentistry. Despite the advantages, limitations such as high equipment costs, material expenses, dimensional shrinkage, and post-processing complexities continue to challenge widespread clinical adoption. This review comprehensively discusses the evolution, principles, classifications, materials, applications, advantages, limitations, and future perspectives of rapid prototyping technologies in digital dentistry. Special emphasis is placed on stereolithography-based systems and their role in restorative dentistry, implantology, and tissue engineering. |
