| Abstract | Harmony of nature is interlinked with the mentality of men.This is the notion of Ruskin Bond,an eminent Indian author of British descent who is celebrated for his lucid prose and profound connection to the Himalayas. Ruskin Bond was born on May 19, 1934 in Kasauli, India. Renowned for his vast collection of short stories and children's literature, his work often centers on nature, nostalgia, and everyday hill life.He is Known for his simple, conversational, and deeply evocative style, Bond's work perfectly captures the beauty of rural India and the Himalayan foothills. He has penned over 500 short stories, novels, and essaysThis research focuses on the ideas of Ruskin Bond about nature which are portrayed through his works and his characters.The works chosen for analysis are the novels The Room on the Roof and Delhi is not Far and the short stories are “The Summer Season” , “The Last Truck Ride”. Ruskin Bond considers nature as his mother and God. Understanding his deep association with nature, when he was asked whether nature was his religion and Nature doesn’t promise you anything - an after life, rewards for good behaviour, protection from enemies, wealth, happiness, progeny, all the things that humans desire and pray for. No,Nature does not promise these things.Nature is a reward in itself. It is there to be appreciated, to be understood, to be loved and lived. And in its way it gives us everything-the bountyand goodness of the earth, the sea, the sky.Food, water, the air we breathe. All the things we take for granted”. (The Book of Nature VIII).Ruskin Bond’s love for nature was injected in his blood by his grantparents.His works can be considered as natural source of eco- edutainment. |
