Spatiotemporal Reading of Mirza Ghalib’s Delhi: A Geocritical Analysis of Select Works
| Author(s) | Dr. Niveda Sebastian |

| Country | India |
| Abstract | Mirza Ghalib through his writings capture Delhi’s historical and spatial transformation which is analyzed in the paper by reading them through a Geocritical lens. The spatiotemporal transformation, owing to the aftermath of the Revolt of 1857, the downfall of the Mughal Empire, and the consolidation of British Regime in India were all events that were witnessed by Ghalib, who wrote about them in his collection of letters, ghazals, and diary entries. A spatiotemporal reading of Ghalib thus, can work as historiographic records of a tumultuous time in Indian history and a Geocritical analysis shall aid in reconstructing the space and time inhabited by the poet. |
