| Abstract | Background Hearing impairment significantly influences communication, education, employment, social participation, and psychological well-being. Although technological advancements have improved hearing rehabilitation, psychosocial consequences continue to affect individuals with hearing impairment across the lifespan. Objective This narrative review aims to synthesize existing literature concerning psychosocial challenges, quality of life outcomes, and rehabilitation approaches among individuals with hearing impairment. Methods A narrative review methodology was adopted to examine literature related to hearing impairment, psychosocial functioning, quality of life, communication barriers, and rehabilitation. Literature from peer-reviewed journals, rehabilitation research, audiology publications, and disability studies sources was conceptually synthesized. Results Five major themes emerged from literature synthesis: communication barriers, psychosocial consequences, educational and occupational challenges, rehabilitation and assistive technologies, and quality of life outcomes. Findings suggest that hearing impairment extends beyond auditory dysfunction and substantially affects social participation and emotional well-being. Conclusion Comprehensive rehabilitation approaches addressing both auditory and psychosocial dimensions are essential for improving quality of life among individuals with hearing impairment. |
