| Abstract | Background: There is a growing need for sexuality education based on evidential effectiveness. Nevertheless, organizations continue to be weighed down by challenges such as community-led support vis-à-vis resistance. This paper aims to analyze the experience(s) of CSE in the Boudh district of Odisha, India. The research questions that it tries to answer are: • What are the strategies in place in CSE implementation? • What are the changes visible in the level of knowledge, attitude, and practices among the adolescents? Methods: After a review of available literature, the study is being conducted using interviews, FGDs, Observation, and Case study methods to record the process of change after two years of implementation of Life Skill Based Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE). Results: Community-led support for CSE was built by implementing the curriculum that was relevant to the context, harnessing a conducive policy environment, institutionalizing CSE through the formation of Adolescents UDAAN Clubs by government-led initiatives, ensuring meticulous selection of educators and proper teachers’ training, thereby accentuating monitoring and evaluation, and communication with community gatekeepers. CSE implementation with the key stakeholders has been one of the effective tools to deal with the challenges at the community level. It has also dealt with the recent pandemic by organizing a formal curriculum review, orientation involving peer educators, dealing aptly with subsequent concerns, and proactively building positive visibility. Conclusion: The inferences from CSE provide insight into the various approaches of designing and sustaining sexuality education programs throughout the district and also within the state from the learning of these two pilot blocks of Boudh district. |
