Soulful Governance: Swami Vivekananda's vision of Ethical Leadership and Moral Polity

| Abstract | Abstract Swami Vivekananda's ideas on moral leadership and administration are examined in this essay as a timeless framework that is pertinent to modern political and administrative theory. Vivekananda's philosophy provides a soul-centered alternative based on selfless service, inner purity, and the awareness of the divine in every human being at a time when contemporary governance is plagued by corruption, moral bankruptcy, and the gap between power and purpose. Based on his writings, lectures, and correspondence, this research explores how Vivekananda saw the ideal leader as a servant who sacrifices their ego for the good of all, rather than as a ruler vying for power. His insistence on the union of spirituality and social responsibility, his view that Seva (selfless service) is the ultimate obligation, and his belief that character, not authority, is the source of true strength comprise the fundamental tenets of what could be referred to as "Soulful Governance." The study also makes the case that Vivekananda's moral philosophy speaks directly to the universal values of justice, compassion, and human dignity and cuts across religious lines. His demand for leaders based on moral principles and an informed, awakened populace offers a workable blueprint for responsible government. This study suggests that internal transformation serves as the basis for external social change by bridging the gap between traditional Indian philosophical ideas and contemporary leadership theory. |
