| Abstract | The present study investigates the influence of peer group interaction on the academic achievement of higher secondary school students. Peer group interaction is a powerful social and educational factor that significantly affects students’ learning behaviour, motivation, and academic performance. The study adopted an experimental research design involving 200 higher secondary students selected from Government and Aided schools in Wayanad district. The sample was equally divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group was exposed to structured peer group interaction strategies such as group discussion, peer tutoring, cooperative learning, and collaborative academic activities, while the control group was taught through traditional lecture method.Data were collected using an achievement test and a peer group interaction scale developed by the investigator. The collected data were analysed using mean, standard deviation, and t-test. The findings revealed that students in the experimental group performed significantly better than those in the control group. A strong positive relationship was also found between peer group interaction and academic achievement. The study concludes that peer group interaction is an effective instructional strategy to enhance academic performance, motivation, and communication skills among higher secondary students. It recommends the integration of structured peer learning strategies in classroom teaching to improve student engagement and academic outcomes. |
