Abstract ABSTRACT
Aquatic macrophytes are large, visible aquatic plants that grow in freshwater ecosystems such as ponds, lakes, wetlands, and reservoirs. They play an essential role in maintaining ecological balance by supporting biodiversity, improving water quality, and providing food and habitat for aquatic organisms.

The present study focuses on the diversity and ecological importance of aquatic macrophytes in Komati Cheruvu and Ensanpally Cheruvu, located in Siddipet District, Telangana, India. Field surveys were conducted to collect aquatic plant samples from different regions of both water bodies. The collected plants were identified using standard botanical references and classified into submerged, floating, and emergent forms.

The results revealed considerable diversity of macrophyte species belonging to different genera and families. These plants contribute significantly to primary productivity, nutrient cycling, sediment stabilization, and water purification. The findings emphasize the importance of conserving aquatic vegetation for maintaining ecological stability and biodiversity in freshwater ecosystems.
