The Tripartite Pressure: USA, Israel, and Iran - Consequences for West Asian Stability and India’s Diplomatic Strategy

Author(s) Dr. P. Jayapal Reddy
Country India
Abstract The intensification of military confrontation between the United States and Israel on one side and Iran on the other—ranging from the June 2025 strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities to the major joint operation launched on 28 February 2026—has pushed West Asia into one of its most volatile phases in decades (Al Jazeera, 2026; BBC News, 2026; Brookings Institution, 2026). With this has come an increased economic and strategic involvement of India in the region, which includes energy reliance on Gulf producers, connectivity initiatives, including the Chabahar Port deal, and increased defence relationships with Israel (Embassy of India, Tehran, n.d.; Reuters, 2024). The paper examines the effects of the changing U.S.-Israel-Iran triangle on West Asian security and limits or facilitates the diplomatic choices of India.
Using recent news stories, think-tank evaluations, and official economic statistics, the paper first charts significant moments in the ongoing conflict and places them in the context of protracted U.S.-Iran and Israel-Iran antagonisms. It then assesses the consequences of regional stability, escalation risks, energy and maritime security, as well as intra-regional alignments. Lastly, it looks into the West Asia policy of India, based on the strategic autonomy and multi-alignment, and evaluates the current change in strategy of New Delhi to safeguard its interests in sanctions, war, and great-power competition. The article presents the view that India stands under increasing pressure as it struggles to reconcile its relations with Washington and Tel Aviv and its long-term interests in Iran and the region.
Keywords West Asia, India’s West Asia policy, U.S.–Iran conflict, Israel–Iran rivalry, Chabahar Port, energy security, strategic autonomy.
