| Abstract | Background: Adolescence is a critical phase of growth and development during which adequate nutrition plays an essential role in maintaining health and achieving optimal physical development. Adolescence is a vulnerable period in human life cycle characterized by rapid growth and development coupled with in numerous physiological and psychological changes (NNMB, 2000) 1. Nutritional problems among adolescent girls can adversely affect their present health and future reproductive outcomes. Objectives: To assess and compare the nutritional status of adolescent girls residing in selected urban and rural areas of Parli V. Methods: A quantitative, non-experimental descriptive comparative research design was adopted. Sixty adolescent girls were selected using purposive sampling, including 30 participants from rural areas and 30 from urban areas. Nutritional status was assessed using anthropometric measurements and Body Mass Index (BMI). Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: Among rural adolescent girls, 70.0% were underweight, 23.3% had normal BMI, and 6.7% were pre-obese. Among urban adolescent girls, 53.3% were underweight and 46.7% had normal BMI. Fisher’s exact test revealed no statistically significant difference in nutritional status between rural and urban adolescent girls (p = 0.067). Conclusion: Underweight remains a common nutritional problem among adolescent girls in both rural and urban areas, with a higher prevalence observed in rural participants. Regular nutritional assessment and health education programs are recommended to improve the nutritional status of adolescent girls. |
