Abstract This study investigated the impact of academic-related stress on self-compassion and resilience among 351 higher secondary school students aged 16–18 years. Using standardized measures of academic stress, self-compassion, and resilience, the study found that academic stress varied significantly according to gender, financial status, academic class, perceived stress level, and source of academic pressure, while no significant differences were observed based on age, residence, birth order, or study hours. Female students reported higher levels of academic stress and resilience than male students, whereas self-compassion showed no significant gender differences. Correlation analysis revealed no significant relationship between academic stress and self-compassion, but a significant positive relationship was found between academic stress and resilience, as well as between self-compassion and resilience. These findings indicate that self-compassion and resilience serve as important psychological resources that support adolescents in coping with academic challenges. The study emphasizes the need for school-based interventions aimed at strengthening self-compassion and resilience to promote students' psychological well-being and academic adjustment.
