| Abstract | The present study examined the influence of personality and social responsibility on prosocial behaviour among young adults aged 18 to 25 years enrolled in arts and science colleges. A sample of 401 participants was selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected using the Big Five Inventory-10 (BFI-10), the Social Responsibility Scale (SR), and the Prosocial Behaviour Questionnaire (SRQ-P). Statistical analyses included independent samples t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson correlation. The findings revealed significant positive correlations between prosocial behaviour and Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, and Openness to Experience, while Neuroticism showed a significant negative correlation. Social responsibility also showed a significant positive correlation with prosocial behaviour. Significant gender differences were found in social responsibility, prosocial behaviour, and Agreeableness, with females scoring higher. Educational level significantly influenced social responsibility, prosocial behaviour, Extraversion, and Agreeableness. The study concludes that personality traits and social responsibility are key predictors of prosocial behaviour among college students. |
