| Abstract | Rural and Agri entrepreneurship has emerged as a critical instrument for promoting inclusive growth, enhancing livelihood opportunities, and ensuring sustainable rural development in agrarian economies. The present study examines the problems and prospects of rural and agricultural entrepreneurship by synthesizing existing literature and analyzing structural, institutional, and socio-economic dimensions influencing entrepreneurial activity in rural areas. The research highlights how rural entrepreneurship extends beyond traditional farming to include food processing, livestock enterprises, agri-services, digital advisory services, and other allied sectors. Such diversification plays a significant role in income generation, employment creation, and the reduction of rural-urban migration. The study identifies major challenges faced by rural entrepreneurs, including limited access to affordable finance, inadequate skill development, weak market linkages, infrastructural deficiencies, and socio-cultural constraints, particularly those affecting women entrepreneurs. Financial exclusion restricts enterprise expansion and innovation, while gaps in training and managerial knowledge hinder competitiveness. Poor transportation, storage facilities, and unreliable power supply further reduce profitability and increase operational risks. Additionally, social norms and mobility restrictions continue to limit the participation of marginalized groups in entrepreneurial ventures. At the same time, the research underscores several enabling factors that drive rural and agri entrepreneurship. Microfinance access, training and incubation support emerge as high-impact drivers, significantly influencing enterprise sustainability and growth. Cooperative institutions and farmer-producer organisations enhance collective bargaining power and market integration, while digital platforms are increasingly transforming access to information, markets, and financial services. Government programs provide structural support, though their effectiveness depends largely on awareness, accessibility, and implementation efficiency. The findings suggest that rural and agri entrepreneurship holds substantial potential for strengthening rural economies, particularly when supported by integrated policies combining financial inclusion, capacity building, infrastructure development, and technological advancement. The study concludes that sustainable rural transformation requires a holistic ecosystem approach in which financial institutions, government agencies, cooperatives, training centers, and digital platforms work collaboratively. By addressing systemic constraints and leveraging emerging opportunities, rural and agricultural entrepreneurship can become a catalyst for economic resilience, social empowerment, and long-term rural prosperity. |
