An Analytical Study of Indian Historical Foundations in Sustainable and Social Entrepreneurship

Author(s) Dr. Malreddy Nag Arun
Country India
Abstract Modern Social Entrepreneurship is often defined as the use of startup techniques to address social, cultural, or environmental issues. However, in the Indian context, the separation of "business" from "society" is a relatively recent Western import. Historically, Indian entrepreneurship was governed by Dharma (Ethical Duty). This paper argues that ancient Indian trade guilds and village industries were the world’s first successful models of sustainable social enterprises, prioritizing community resilience over individual capital accumulation.
