| Abstract | Economic development of a country is supported by entrepreneurship in several ways. It is a key contributor for innovativeness and product improvement and a pivotal ingredient to employment creation. Entrepreneurship plays a crucial role in the creating and expanding of opportunities for economic development. Other economic activities include employment generation and export promotion, rural development, and technological development. Every country, whether developed or developing, requires entrepreneurs, however a developing country requires entrepreneurs to kick start the development process, and a developed country requires entrepreneurship to keep going. In the current Indian context, where employment opportunities in the public and large-scale sectors are shrinking on the one hand and vast opportunities arising from globalization are waiting to be exploited on the other, entrepreneurship has the potential to propel India to the heights of becoming a super economic power. In recent years, India has witnessed a surge in entrepreneurial activity, driven by a growing middle class, increasing digital connectivity, and a supportive policy environment. Government initiatives such as the Startup India campaign and programmes aimed at enhancing the ease of doing business have created a more favorable environment for startups. However, despite these positive developments, entrepreneurs in India continue to face considerable barriers. Regulatory complexities, access to finance, and inadequate infrastructure remain substantial obstacles that can impede the growth and success of new ventures. In the present Indian context, where, on the one hand, employment opportunities in the public sector and large-scale sectors are shrinking, and on the other, vast opportunities arising from globalization are waiting to be exploited, entrepreneurship can really take India to the heights of becoming a super economic power. This study describes the growth of entrepreneurship in India. |
