| Abstract | India's transformation into the world's third-largest startup ecosystem — with over 157,000 DPIIT-recognised startups, 118 unicorns, and USD 115 billion in cumulative venture capital funding since 2016 — represents one of the defining entrepreneurial phenomena of the twenty-first century. Yet no systematic bibliometric mapping of the research landscape on this topic exists. This study conducts a PRISMA-compliant bibliometric analysis of 214 publications (2004–2024) retrieved from Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, and SSRN/RePEC. Using VOSviewer and Biblioshiny (R-Bibliometrix), the study traces a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 19.7% in annual publications, identifies India and the United States as dominant research-producing countries, and reveals five thematic clusters: Entrepreneurial Ecosystem and Policy; Venture Capital and Funding Dynamics; Digital Entrepreneurship and Fintech; Social and Women Entrepreneurship; and Innovation Systems and Incubation. Callon's strategic diagram identifies digital entrepreneurship and ecosystem-policy research as motor themes, and deep-tech, space-tech, and sustainability-oriented entrepreneurship as frontier emerging themes. A seven-point future research agenda is proposed. |
