Entrepreneurship Development in Kurnool District: Opportunities, Challenges, and Policy Perspectives

Author(s) Prof. S. Mansoor Rahman, Dr. H Akther Banu
Country India
Abstract Entrepreneurship is crucial for regional economic growth, especially in areas with many resources but not many industrial opportunities. This paper aims to explore the possibilities, problems and the potential of developing entrepreneurship in the Kurnool district. The district has a plethora of economic activities that include mining, farming, cottage industries and new industrial infrastructure. And with the advent of a drone hub, the opportunities are wide for the budding entrepreneurs. These are the avenues that make things easy for entrepreneurs to grow in different dimensions and in different areas.
The paper also focuses on the important opportunities in business, like processing granite and cement; agro-based industries, like extracting oil and mango pulp; and traditional industries, like handloom weaving.
Also emerging areas like renewable energy, logistics and 80 enabled services are opening new means for businesses to grow. The mega industrial hub at Orvakal and the industrial park built by the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation add to the district's industrial potential. The government programmes like the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Startup India and Standup India are all government programmes that promote entrepreneurship.
The study talks about certain structural problems, like how agriculture doesn't generate much value, how industrial infrastructure isn't used enough, how logistics and cold storage facilities aren't good enough, and how many skilled workers are moving to cities. Mechanisation is a threat to traditional sectors, and SMEs have problems with money, getting into markets, and following rules.
The report concludes that Kurnool district has a lot of potential to become a centre for entrepreneurship in the region, but only if the right policies are put in place. Some of these policies include strengthening MSMEs, enhancing infrastructure and logistics, promoting agro-processing, and assisting individuals in acquiring new skills. A balanced approach that combines traditional strengths with modern industrial growth can help the region's economy flourish in a way that is fair and long-lasting
