| Abstract | The Karama Festival is one of the most significance socio-cultural and religious celebrations of the Kisan tribe of Odisha. Observed with great devotion and collective participation, the festival reflects the community’s deep connection with nature, agriculture, and ancestral traditions. Centred on the worship of the Karama tree, the festival symbolizes fertility, prosperity, social harmony, and ecological consciousness. This study examines the cultural significance of the Karama Festival in Kisan society and explores its role in preserving indigenous traditions, beliefs, values, and collective identity. Drawing upon historical, anthropological, and cultural perspectives, the paper analyses the rituals, songs, dances, and community practices associated with the festival. It highlights how the Karama festival serves as a medium for the transmission of indigenous knowledge and cultural heritage from one generation to another. The study further investigates the relationship between the festival and the Kisan worldview, particularly their reverence for nature and communal way of life. Despite the challenges posed by modernization and cultural transformation, the Karama Festival continues to remain a vibrant expression of Kisan identity and cultural resilience. The paper concludes that the Karama Festival is not merely a religious observance but a living cultural institution that strengthens social cohesion, reinforces ecological values, and sustains the indigenous heritage of the Kisan community in Odisha. |
