Comparing the Effect of Bobath and Motor Relearning Programme on Upper Limb Function in Patients with Cerebrovascular Accidents: Case Study

Abstract Recovery of upper limb function after cerebrovascular accident is often slower and less complete than recovery of gait, despite the arm and hand being central to self-care, communication, balance reactions, and social participation. Two frequently discussed neurorehabilitation approaches are the Bobath concept and the Motor Relearning Programme (MRP). Bobath emphasizes normalization of tone, alignment, facilitation of selective movement, and task performance based on handling, postural preparation, and control of abnormal patterns. MRP, by contrast, focuses on analysis of missing motor components, intensive task-specific practice, feedback, repetition, and transfer of training to functional situations. Comparative clinical descriptions at the case level remain educationally useful because they reveal how patient characteristics influence response to treatment.
Keywords Cerebrovascular accident, stroke rehabilitation, Bobath, Motor Relearning Programme, upper limb recovery, task-oriented training, neurophysiotherapy.
