| Abstract | An external hordeolum (stye) is an acute Staphylococcal abscess of a lash follicle involving the glands of Zeis, commonly affecting children and young adults. It typically presents as a tender, erythematous swelling on the eyelid margin, pointing anteriorly through the skin usually with a lash at its apex. In Ayurveda, this condition can be correlated with Anjananamika, described as Dahatodavatitamra pidaka - a copper-coloured boil associated with burning and pricking sensations in the Vartmapradesha (eyelid), along with Mridvimanda Ruja (soft swelling with mild pain). The Ayurvedic line of management includes Swedana(hot compress), Bhedana(incision), Nishpidana (to apply pressure to drain out the pus), Pratisarana (rubbing of medicated powders over eyelid), and Anjana(collyrium). The objective of the present study is to evaluate the effectiveness of Parisheka along with internal medications in the management of Anjanqnamika. A 4 -year old female child was brought by her parents to the Shalakya Tantra Eye OPD, Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda, Jamnagar, Gujarat, with complaints of painful swelling over the lower eyelid of the left eye for 2 days. The associated symptoms included redness, mild watering, and local tenderness. There was also a history of recurrent styes. Based on the clinical features, the condition was diagnosed as Anjannamika. The management included Parisheka with decoction made with Triphala Churna , Nimba Churna, Yashtimadhu Churna , and Lodhra Churna for 5 days, along with internal administration of Patola Churna, Triphala Churna, and Guduchi Churna mixed with Madhu for 5 days. The child showed complete resolution of all symptoms within 5 days, indicating a favourable therapeutic response. |
