| Abstract | Background: A voluntary non-remunerated blood donation forms the firm foundation of blood transfusion services of the country. Blood transfusion Services (BTS) is the vital part of modern health care system without which efficient medical care is impossible.Voluntary blood donation is essential for safe transfusion services; however, a gap exists between awareness and actual donation practices among youth. Aim: To determine the knowledge , attitudes and practices of voluntary non-remunerated blood donation amongst the engineering undergraduates. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 160 engineering students using a pretested questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS, and associations were assessed using Chi-square test. Result: Of 160 participants, 91.8% were aware of their blood group and 42.5% had donated blood. Male students donated significantly more than females (p=0.022). Awareness of blood donation campaigns was also significantly associated with donation (p=0.015). Conclusion: Despite good knowledge and attitude, blood donation practices remain suboptimal. Strengthening IEC activities can improve voluntary donation rates. |
