| Abstract | Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative force in education, reshaping teaching practices, learning experiences, assessment systems, and educational administration worldwide. In India, where educational diversity, population size, and disparities in access present significant challenges, AI offers promising opportunities to improve learning outcomes and promote educational equity. The integration of AI-powered tools such as intelligent tutoring systems, adaptive learning platforms, automated assessment mechanisms, learning analytics, and virtual assistants has the potential to personalize learning experiences and enhance student engagement. Furthermore, AI can assist educators in reducing administrative burdens, enabling them to focus more on instructional and mentoring activities. However, alongside these opportunities, the adoption of AI in education raises critical concerns regarding data privacy, algorithmic bias, digital inequality, teacher displacement, transparency, and ethical accountability. The Indian educational landscape faces unique challenges, including inadequate technological infrastructure, limited digital literacy, socioeconomic disparities, and varying levels of institutional readiness. This paper critically examines the opportunities, challenges, and ethical implications associated with AI integration in teaching and learning within the Indian context. Drawing upon existing literature, policy documents, and contemporary educational practices, the study explores how AI can contribute to achieving educational goals while identifying barriers that may hinder its effective implementation. The findings suggest that although AI can significantly improve educational quality, accessibility, and efficiency, its successful deployment requires robust ethical frameworks, inclusive policies, capacity-building initiatives, and continuous monitoring to ensure equitable and responsible use. The study concludes that a balanced and human-centered approach to AI adoption is essential for fostering sustainable educational development in India |
