Spores of Memory: Ecological Trauma, Multispecies Entanglement, and the Persistence of the Past in Anna Tsing's the Mushroom at the End of the World

Abstract	The critical discourse on ecological memory has, until relatively recently, remained siloed within disciplines that rarely speak to one another: ecology proper (where the term denotes the capacity of an ecosystem to absorb disturbance and reassert its structural complexity), cultural geography, and the environmental humanities. What Tsing accomplishes—and what this essay aims to trace—is a literary and philosophical synthesis that renders ecological memory legible as a narrative category, a formal problem, and an ethical orientation simultaneously. Her concept of the "salvage accumulation," her recovery of the term "contaminated diversity," and her unflinching insistence on the productivity of ruins all constitute a poetics of ecological memory that warrants sustained close reading.
