| Abstract | The treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD), a neurodegenerative condition marked by the death of dopaminergic neurons in the brain, heavily relies on neuropharmacology. In the treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD), dopaminergic agonists like ropinirole and pramipexole have become important pharmacological medicines. Both medications work by activating dopamine receptors in the brain, making up for the lower dopamine levels linked to Parkinson's disease. Pramipexole targets both D2-like and D3 receptors, which contributes to its therapeutic effects, whereas ropinirole is a selective D2-like receptor agonist. In early-stage Parkinson's disease (PD), these drugs are usually used as monotherapy; in later stages, they are used as supplements to levodopa treatment. Neuropharmacologically, by improving dopaminergic transmission, ropinirole and pramipexole can reduce motor symptoms such bradykinesia, stiffness, and tremors. Additionally, because they affect other neurotransmitter systems like serotonin, they may help manage non-motor symptoms including sadness and exhaustion. However, there are drawbacks to using these drugs, such as adverse effects including orthostatic hypotension, hallucinations, and impulse control issues. The goal of ongoing research is to maximize the practical use of these dopaminergic agonists in the treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD) and get a better understanding of their long-term consequences. In the context of Parkinson's disease, this abstract examines the neuropharmacological characteristics, therapeutic functions, and clinical implications of ropinirole and pramipexole. It focuses on their effects on dopaminergic signaling and their potential to alleviate the disease's motor and non-motor symptoms. |
