Abstract ABSTRACT: Reproductive tract infections (RTIs) remain a major public health concern among adolescent girls because of inadequate awareness regarding reproductive health, menstrual hygiene, transmission routes, symptoms, and preventive measures. Educational interventions are considered important strategies for improving knowledge and promoting preventive behaviour. The objective of the study is to assess the pre-test level of knowledge regarding prevention of reproductive tract infections among adolescent girls, to evaluate the effect of a Structured Teaching Programme (STP), and to determine the association between pre-test knowledge and selected demographic variables. A quantitative research approach with a pre-experimental one-group pre-test post-test design was adopted. The study was conducted among 64 adolescent girls studying in Class XI and XII in selected Government Higher Secondary Schools of Kamrup (M), Assam. Multistage proportionate random sampling technique was used. Data were collected through a structured self-administered questionnaire consisting of 20 knowledge items. Reliability of the tool was established by split-half method (r=0.923). Data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics including frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, paired t-test and chi-square test. In the pre-test, 73.4% of participants had moderately adequate knowledge, 14.0% had inadequate knowledge and 12.6% had adequate knowledge. Following the Structured Teaching Programme, the majority of participants attained adequate knowledge. The mean pre-test score was 9.97 and the mean post-test score was 16.38, with a mean difference of 6.41. The calculated paired t-value was 11.472 at df=63, which was statistically significant at p<0.05. A significant association was found between pre-test knowledge and previous information regarding reproductive tract infections. The Structured Teaching Programme was effective in improving knowledge regarding prevention of reproductive tract infections among adolescent girls. The findings support the integration of reproductive health education programmes in schools to strengthen awareness and preventive practices among adolescents.
