| Abstract | College life is a crucial stage where students develop independence while continuing to receive guidance from their parents. This study examines the impact of parental involvement on college students' independence, self-direction, and ethical thinking. Using a descriptive research design and a quantitative approach, data were collected from 200 undergraduate and postgraduate students in Dakshina Kannada district through a structured questionnaire. The findings indicate that parental involvement is moderate and supportive, with parents providing emotional support, regular communication, and trust while allowing students the freedom to make decisions. Students demonstrated a satisfactory level of independence and strong self-direction, although improvement is needed in areas such as time management. Ethical thinking emerged as the strongest dimension, reflecting the positive influence of parental values. Overall, the study concludes that balanced parental involvement positively contributes to the development of confident, responsible, and ethically aware college students. |
