| Abstract | The increased involvement of the members of the Generation Z workforce in the profession of banking has resulted in considerable interest in studying the impact of various factors on the workplace wellbeing and work-life balance of such workers. Emotional Intelligence has emerged as an important psychological factor which helps in dealing with the issues associated with workplace behaviour, emotion regulation and well-being. This study aims to investigate the association between Emotional Intelligence and Work-Life Balance of Generation Z workers employed in private banks of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. In particular, the importance of Emotional Intelligence as a factor contributing to Job Stress and Burnout and its implications for Work-Life Balance are examined. The study has been conducted using the quantitative survey design, and the data have been obtained from 316 Generation Z workers employed in private banks. The standardised scales such as Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale (WLEIS), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), and Hayman’s Work-Life Balance Scale have been used for assessing these variables. The findings of the study have been obtained through the process of data analysis using SEM. Based on the findings of the study, Emotional Intelligence reduced Job Stress and was an element that had a positive impact on Work-Life Balance. Also, there was a positive impact of Job Stress on Burnout and a negative impact of Burnout on Work-Life Balance. Apart from that, Job Stress and Burnout served as mediators between Emotional Intelligence and Work-Life Balance. The significance of this study is in the fact that it shows the significance of Emotional Intelligence as a personal resource that can contribute to the well-being of people. The findings of this study will be useful for banks to improve the well-being of their employees, avoid burnout, and provide good work environments for Gen Z employees. |
