Efficacy and Safety of EqualsTwo Oil Free Hair Oil in Pregnant and Lactating Women: An Open-Label, Single-Arm Clinical Study

| Abstract | Context: Hair fall during pregnancy and the postpartum period is highly prevalent, with global estimates ranging from 68–92%. Therapeutic options remain limited due to safety considerations, driving interest in well-tolerated, naturally derived formulations. Aim: This study was designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of EqualsTwo Oil Free Hair Oil (Test Product) in reducing hair fall and improving hair strength and scalp condition in pregnant and lactating women. Setting and Design: This study was an open-label, single-arm clinical trial enrolling 60 women (25 pregnant and 35 lactating). Methods and Material: Participants applied the test product to the roots and scalp thrice weekly for 30 days. The primary endpoint was hair fall reduction assessed by the 60-second hair count test. Secondary endpoints included hair strength (pull test), growth-phase distribution (phototrichogram), scalp oiliness (Sebumeter), dermatologist evaluations, and participant-reported outcomes. Safety and tolerability were assessed throughout. Results: Fifty-three women completed the study. Mean hair fall decreased by 24.6% (Day 5), 51.3% (Day 15), and 73.8% (Day 30) (all p < 0.0001). Pull-test counts reduced by 36.4% at Day 30. Anagen proportion increased by 4.8% and the anagen-to-telogen ratio improved by 22.5%. Scalp oiliness reduced by 6.3%; itch, redness, and roughness resolved completely by Day 30. All participants (100%) reported subjective improvement, and no adverse events were observed. Conclusion: The test product is safe, well tolerated, and demonstrated clinically meaningful reductions in hair fall with improvements in hair strength, growth cycle parameters, and scalp condition. *Test product is currently marketed under name of “EqualsTwo Anti-Hair Fall Mist Spray”. |
