| Abstract | The Thangal tribe is one of the indigenous Naga tribes of Manipur with a distinct social organization, tradition, and economy. Traditionally, the community depended on agriculture for its livelihood, and its social life was based on customary institutions and kinship networks. The spread of education, Christianity, government welfare programs, the development of communication, and growing contact with the wider society has resulted in noticeable changes over time in aspects of life. Changes are evident in family structure, marriage practices, traditional leadership, occupation, agricultural activities and the role of women. Although many traditional values have continued to be maintained, the community has adapted to changing social and economic conditions. This paper explores the factors of modernization and their impact on the socio-economic life of the Thangal tribe, focusing on both continuity and change within the community. |
