Moot Court as an Innovative Teaching Methodology in Nursing Education: A Quasi-Experimental Study

Author(s) Prof. Dr. SIMAN ARNOLD XAVIER
Country India
Abstract Moot Court is an innovative, simulation-based teaching strategy that enhances legal awareness, ethical reasoning, and critical thinking among undergraduate nursing students. This quasi-experimental one-group pre-test–post-test study involved 60 nursing students who participated in a structured Moot Court intervention focusing on medico-legal and ethical issues in nursing practice. Legal knowledge, critical thinking disposition, and professional confidence were assessed using validated tools before and after the intervention. The findings demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in legal knowledge (p < 0.001), critical thinking (p < 0.01), and professional confidence (p < 0.01). Students also reported increased engagement, improved communication skills, and a better understanding of their legal and professional responsibilities. The study concludes that integrating Moot Court into the nursing curriculum is an effective approach to strengthening students' legal competence, critical thinking abilities, and readiness to address ethical and legal challenges in clinical practice.
