Abstract In recent years the Indian stock market has seen many changes, because of rapid digitalisation, increase in retail investors, innovation in technologies and reforms of regulatory bodies (SEBI, 2024; RBI, 2024; IMF, 2024). It is important to understand the role of the capital market because India is moving towards the vision of Viksit Bharat. This paper analyses the dynamics of the Indian stock market and also their implications for long-term national development. It adopts a conceptual research approach which is based on secondary data. The review of academic literature and institutional reports was considered to synthesise macroeconomic factors, behavioural finance, financial digitalisation, financial inclusion, retail investor participation and regulatory developments. The present research shows that stock market dynamics are shaped by the interaction of all the variables mentioned above. This paper shows conceptual framework and explains how these factors collectively influence the market, investors and capital mobilisation. It also shows how they will contribute to sustainable economic growth. By combining various portions of different literature, this research offers a comprehensive view on the developmental role of India's capital market and provides some insights for various stakeholders. This current study also establishes a foundation for future empirical research on stock market development in reference to Viksit Bharat at 2047.
