Abstract The study titled "Parenting in the Feed" explores the use of social media as a non-formal education tool for parents. A survey of 100 parents reveals that among the various forms of social media, YouTube is the preferred source of information on parenting (48%), followed by Facebook and Instagram (20% each), while WhatsApp accounts for 12%. Parental observations indicate that social media enables easy access to education regarding parenting through forums, videos, expert advice, and demonstration.
Social media as an education medium was perceived to have several advantages, with 40% reporting improvements in parenting knowledge and skills. 15% were impressed by the flexibility of self-study and the emotional support of online parenting forums, while 18% appreciated access to expert advice. Clearly, the findings of the study reveal that algorithm-driven feeds help in providing a personalised learning experience based on the needs of the parents and the developmental stage of the child.
