| Abstract | Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha), a cornerstone herb of Ayurveda, is widely recognized for its rejuvenating (Rasayana), adaptogenic, and neuroprotective properties. This review integrates classical Ayurvedic knowledge with contemporary pharmacological and clinical evidence to explore the therapeutic potential of Ashwagandha. The paper highlights the role of bioactive withanolides in regulating the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, enhancing neuroplasticity, reducing oxidative stress, and promoting immune modulation. It further discusses clinical evidence supporting its efficacy in stress management, cognitive enhancement, endocrine health, muscle strength, and healthy aging. The article also addresses challenges in standardization, safety considerations, and future prospects involving nanotechnology-based drug delivery systems. The findings suggest that Ashwagandha has significant potential as an evidence-based integrative therapeutic agent for neurological, endocrine, and age-related disorders. |
