| Abstract | This review paper examines the role of digital literacy in empowering women within the rapidly evolving Information and Communication Technology (ICT) landscape in India. Digital literacy has become a fundamental competency that enables women to access education, employment, financial services, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and government welfare schemes through digital platforms. Although India has witnessed significant progress through initiatives such as Digital India, PMGDISHA, BharatNet, and Skill India, disparities in digital access and literacy continue to affect women, particularly in rural and socio-economically disadvantaged communities. Drawing on recent literature published between 2020 and 2026, this review critically analyses the relationship between digital literacy, ICT adoption, women's empowerment, and sustainable development. It also discusses major challenges, including the gender digital divide, affordability, infrastructure limitations, digital safety concerns, and socio-cultural barriers. The paper concludes by proposing strategies to strengthen digital literacy among women through inclusive policies, gender-responsive digital education, community-based training, and improved digital infrastructure. Enhancing women's digital literacy is essential for achieving gender equality, inclusive development, and sustainable economic growth in India. |
