Evolving Geopolitical Dynamics of Afghanistan: Implications For Enduring Peace

Abstract	The road to peace and stability in Afghanistan is long and is full of uncertainty. The efforts to bring peace to this worn-torn country started with the Bonn Agreement which has laid the foundation for a ‘New State’ of Afghanistan finally culminated in February 2020. Potentially putting an end to the longest-ever civil war in Afghanistan. However, the feasibility of such an arrangement is doubtful due to the complexity and entanglement of the regional security situation and the existence of multiple issues that involve lack of shared role and responsibility. Issues of trust deficit, mutual misapprehension, and rigid approach of almost all the stakeholders are fundamental challenges for bringing perpetual stability in Afghanistan. This article examines all these core issues that act as stumbling blocks in the way to bring back peace in Afghanistan. The article has further explored the changing contours navigating Indian’s foreign policy towards Afghanistan and decide its fait accompli post the withdrawal of the United States.
