Abstract The rapid evolution of the game development industry has transformed game production into a multidisciplinary process involving software engineering, computer graphics, artificial intelligence, user experience design, and interactive storytelling. Unlike conventional software projects, game development is characterized by continuously evolving requirements, frequent design iterations, and extensive player-driven modifications, making traditional Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) models insufficient for managing modern game production. Existing Game Development Life Cycle (GDLC) models address several of these challenges; however, many lack a unified framework that effectively integrates agile methodologies, iterative prototyping, continuous testing, collaborative workflows, and emerging technologies to support modern indie game development. This study presents a comprehensive literature review and comparative analysis of contemporary game development methodologies, including Agile Development, Model-Driven Game Development (MDGD), iterative prototyping, and modern game engine technologies such as Unity and Unreal Engine. Recent advancements in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, procedural content generation, and automated testing are also examined to evaluate their impact on development efficiency and software quality. Based on the analysis, an optimized GDLC framework is proposed to improve development flexibility, communication, project scalability, quality assurance, and overall production efficiency while preserving the creative nature of game design. The proposed framework integrates iterative feedback, continuous testing, and collaborative development practices into a unified lifecycle suitable for modern game development environments. The findings provide practical insights for researchers, indie developers, and game studios seeking to adopt structured yet flexible development processes for producing high-quality interactive gaming experiences.
