Abstract Climate change significantly impacts mental health, with Uttarakhand offering a unique context due to its exposure and demographics. This study examined how Climate Change Worry (CCW) relates to psychological well-being and whether anxiety moderates this relationship. A sample of 430 participants (143 females, 287 males) completed CCW and PGWBI-22 measures. PROCESS Model 1 was applied, with gender-stratified analyses. Results showed high CCW and a significant negative correlation with well-being. Anxiety significantly moderated the CCW–health link in males, intensifying CCW’s negative effects, but no such interaction appeared in females. Findings suggest gender-specific pathways, emphasizing interventions that reduce anxiety in males and explore protective factors in females to mitigate climate change’s psychological impact.
