| Abstract | HR departments are beginning to use artificial intelligence (AI) to automate processes, predict outcomes, and provide decision support for tasks that were traditionally completed using human intelligence. Many companies use AI to enhance and/or automate human resources functions such as recruiting, onboarding, performance management, training, workforce management, and employee engagement in order to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort. The increased adoption of artificial intelligence in HR is not without concerns however; issues with bias, lack of transparency, employee privacy, ethics and accountability, regulations, and the reduction of human decision-making in HR practices have emerged with the adoption of AI. The purpose of this paper is to discuss challenges companies face when implementing AI in HR. This paper uses mixed method descriptive research design through a primary survey and secondary sources. Survey findings show that AI has made the recruiting process faster, improves decision making with predictive analytics, and eliminates mundane tasks. However, participants had concerns with using AI in hiring related to unfairness in the algorithms used, transparency, data privacy of employees, employee pushback, and lack of AI knowledge. It is recommended that AI should be used to assist HR professionals and not replace them. Companies should use AI responsibly and train employees on how to use the technology. Algorithm transparency is key as well as following regulations and monitoring AI with human oversight. Collaborative human–AI relationship will lead to long-term success in AI and HR. |
