Abstract This paper presents an AI-Based Object Detection and Smart Navigation System for Visually Impaired People that assists users in moving safely and independently. The proposed system uses a camera and the YOLOv8 object detection model to identify surrounding objects in real time. Detected objects are converted into voice alerts using a Text-to-Speech (TTS) engine, enabling users to understand their environment without visual assistance. The system can detect common obstacles such as people, vehicles, chairs, and other objects, helping users avoid collisions and navigate safely. It is designed to be accurate, fast, and user-friendly while operating with low computational requirements. Experimental results demonstrate effective real-time object detection and reliable audio guidance, making the proposed solution a practical and affordable assistive technology for enhancing the mobility and independence of visually impaired individuals.
