| Abstract | Digital hoarding refers to the excessive collection of digital artefacts and a persistent refusal to delete any stored information. It is a new-age behavioural challenge influenced by digital infrastructures. This research involves a systematic review of 60 Scopus-indexed articles published during 2001 to 2025. We used the Theory–Context–Methodology (TCM) framework. Through TCM framework, we analyse the pattern of publication of the literature concerning digital hoarding. The analysis shows that the literature is growing rapidly, as evidenced by the surge of publications in most recent years, with a peak in 2024. Furthermore, despite this increasing growth, the literature is fragmented, as there is a lack of consistency in theory, little contextualisation, and methodological limitations. The results highlight thirteen theoretical frameworks among previous studies whereby psychological mechanisms, affordances and organisational aspects have insufficient connections. Most existing evidence comes from samples in universities, and with cross-sectional survey design we cannot view digital hoarding as a longitudinal behavioural process. Future research should must develop interdisciplinary theoretical models, include diverse populations from organisational and healthcare settings, as well as use longitudinal designs and objective digital behavioural measures to gain a clearer understanding of hoarding behaviour in modern digital environments, intervention-based research. In addition, there should be a greater use of mixed-methods research. These should help in bettering theoretical development and in improving behavioural interventions. |
