Country India
Abstract Education policies play a key role in shaping a nation's human capital and long-term overall development in a country. In this study, a comparative study of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and National Policy on Education (NPE) 1986 have been studied. The historical evolution of education policies of India after it has gained independence has been briefly explained in the study. The basic foundation stages and features of NEP have been defined to get the proper understanding of the policy. This study will contribute to the existing literature and get the significant insights about the education policy journey of the nation. The author has simply defined the various policies and pointed out the 30 main differences between National Education Policy 1986 and National Education Policy 2020. After thoroughly comparing these policies, we can infer that NEP 2020 has transformed the education system in India by introducing student-centric policies that will help in the overall development of the student. It has focused on learning digitally, global integrations, flexibility in studying, freedom to educational institutions etc. NEP 2020 is progressive in nature which promotes equitable and effective education to all.
