| Abstract | Abstract Women's empowerment has emerged as one of the most significant global development priorities in the twenty-first century (Hossain&Ghosh, 2020). It refers to the process through which women gain equal access to education, healthcare, employment, political participation, and economic resources while exercising control over decisions affecting their lives. Despite substantial progress in many countries, women continue to experience discrimination, unequal pay, limited educational opportunities, gender-based violence, and underrepresentation in leadership positions. These challenges hinder not only women's individual development but also the overall social and economic progress of nations. This research paper examines the concept of women's empowerment, its historical development, and its significance in achieving sustainable development. It reviews existing literature on gender equality and women's rights while highlighting the major barriers preventing women from reaching their full potential. Furthermore, the study explores national and international initiatives designed to promote women's empowerment, including policies implemented by governments and organizations such as the United Nations. The paper concludes by emphasizing that empowering women is essential for reducing poverty, improving health and education outcomes, strengthening democratic institutions, and promoting inclusive economic growth. |
