Abstract Infectious diarrhea is a common cause of pediatric morbidity and may result in dehydration, nutritional problems, and complications. This retrospective study evaluated the management practices, treatment guideline adherence, and clinical outcomes among 100 pediatric patients with infectious diarrhea at ESIC Hospital, Rajajinagar, Bengaluru. Children aged 1–3 years were the largest age group (31%), and 57% were male. Diarrhea was present in all patients, while vomiting (74%), fever (61%), dehydration (40%), and abdominal pain (29%) were reported. ORS was administered to 89% of patients, IV fluids to 50%, and both to 41%. Antibiotics were given to 34%, although only 21% were appropriately indicated and 15% were considered inappropriate. Zinc supplementation was provided to 84%. Mean recovery time was 4.5 days and hospitalization was 3.8 days. Dehydration-related readmission occurred in 6% and secondary infections in 4%. Identified management gaps included inappropriate antibiotic use (15%), incomplete rehydration (10%), and inadequate zinc supplementation (15%). The study emphasizes rational antibiotic use, improved guideline adherence, caregiver education, and consistent availability of ORS and zinc.
