A Comparative Phonology of A·we and Chibok Dialects of Garo

Abstract This study presents a comparative phonological analysis of the A·we and Chibok varieties of the Garo language. The study aims to identify and compares the vowel and consonant inventories, syllable structures, consonant clusters, and a major phonological correspondences between the two varieties. The data were collected through structured and unstructured interviews, observation, and audio recordings of native speakers. The collected lexical items were analysed using FLEx 9.0 and Phonological Assistant, with the data transcribed using the International Phonetic Alphabet. The findings shows that both the A·we and Chibok share some phonological similarities and dissimilarities.
