Abstract Social entrepreneurship is emerging as a new field for the past decades. The research studies in the field are increasing year by year. It can play a remarkable role in the economic development of a country especially like India where the socio-cultural environment is divergent. The term women entrepreneurship is now popular in the country. By combining the concepts of women entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship, a new trend is evolving namely women social entrepreneurship. The study made an attempt to understand the status of women social entrepreneurship in the country, its challenges and the factors of subsistence.
