Coagulase-Negative Staphylococci in Neonatal Sepsis: Epidemiology, Species Distribution, and Device-Associated Risk Factors in a Tertiary-Care Hospital

Abstract	Neonatal sepsis remains a major cause of preventable morbidity and mortality, particularly among premature and low-birth-weight infants. Coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS), once regarded principally as skin contaminants, are now established causes of late-onset sepsis in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). Their clinical importance is linked to immature host defences, prolonged hospitalization, vascular access, respiratory support, and the ability to adhere to foreign materials. The present study analyses the epidemiological and clinical profile of CoNS isolated from suspected neonatal sepsis cases in a tertiary care centre.
