| Abstract | Rural tourism has the potential to support local employment, entrepreneurship, cultural preservation, and economic development in Bihar. However, many rural destinations remain less visible because of limited promotion and inadequate access to tourism information. This study examines the role of digital marketing in promoting rural tourism in Bihar, with particular attention to major strategies, opportunities, challenges, and future directions. The study adopts a descriptive and review-based research design and uses secondary information from academic literature, research reports, and relevant policy documents. The study identifies social media marketing, websites and search engine marketing, content and video marketing, online travel platforms, mobile-based marketing, online reviews, and data-driven marketing as important approaches for improving the visibility and accessibility of rural destinations. It further finds that digital marketing can support local culture, heritage, cuisine, homestays, entrepreneurship, and wider market access. However, inadequate digital infrastructure, limited digital literacy, lack of professional marketing skills, financial and technological constraints, weak stakeholder coordination, and concerns related to online trust remain major challenges. The study concludes that an integrated approach combining digital capacity building, community participation, quality tourism services, coordinated destination management, and responsible use of data and artificial intelligence can strengthen the sustainable development of rural tourism in Bihar. |
